Student teaching. Our gift to the future.
I’ve had a great experience here in Whyalla. The clinic has a great set up, with a relaxed, friendly environment. Both the vets and all the nurses are easy going, good at what they do and have a sense of humour. I have been able to do most of the routine surgerys which has helped improve my surgical and anaesthesia skills greatly, and there was never a shortage of routine surgerys especially with all the rehousing animals. I was also able to amputate a cats leg, help with a pyometra spey and amputate a cats tail, which were all pretty fun.
Andrew and Yuri are both really patient and good teachers. We saw some interesting cases which were good to work through and learn from.
I also got to spend three days in Roxby Downs which was fun, very busy, but really good to see. The drive up was great, I had never really seen country like it and I thought it was amazing.
I was provided with a little car to scoot around town in, a laptop to write up cases and check emails etc, and accommodation with a lovely lady called Sandy. It was great to be able to go home to a cosy little place, with a friendly face to talk to about your day. I’d recommend this clinic to do work experience in, as you’re guaranteed to get some hands on experience and plenty of cases to see. Its also fun to see a different part of Australia and meet some new people.
