Locum required for December 2016 and January 2017

LOCATION: 4 hours from Adelaide, South Australia

DESCRIPTION: A vacancy exists for a vet to join our team of three vets and 16 lay staff in a highly skilled, bond centred practice. We are looking for a new graduate who would like to be trained as a first class small animal veterinarian. We are a teaching practice and have rotations of final year veterinary students from Melbourne University and Mudoch University in Perth doing their small animal clinical rotations with us. In addition we run two animal shelters and are the RSPCA vets for this area of South Australia. We provide veterinary services for the local greyhound racing and local horse racing.

The practice is dedicated to a minimal environmental footprint from our activities and providing a future for following generations. We are heavily into population control, recycling, waste minimization, we run our own reforestation project (200 acres) and own a 3km stretch of coastline which is being revegetated as a biodiversity project. We are a carbon neutral practice and offset all our carbon emissions by growing trees with Carbon Neutral.

The clinic in Whyalla has just been extensively renovated and the clinic in Roxby Downs and branch practice in Cowell are new. The practice is fully computerized, in-house idexx pathology, endoscope and all the modern equipment you would expect in a progressive multi-clinic practice.

We have excellent, mature lay staff who can be relied upon and will provide an excellent resource for a new vet joining the practice.

The position is based in Whyalla , a city of 22,000 that offers an excellent lifestyle with excellent fishing, boating, swimming and all other amenities of a medium sized coastal city.

AFTER HOURS WORK: 1 in 4 rota after initial training.

REMUNERATION: Salary will depend on experience and skill of the veterinarian but new graduates would expect a salary package around $60,000 pa. The job comes with a new car, house, laptop, internet and mobile. Phone. Leave: 4 weeks pa. plus one week study leave.
