The Whyalla Veterinary Clinic is still seeing case of dogs with Parvovirus. The disease manifests itself, predominantly in young dog, with intense vomiting, diarrhoea and extreme lethargy.

We have had no vaccinated dogs come down with parvovirus, so it is safe to walk vaccinated dogs around Whyalla.

Unvaccinated dogs should not be taken out to of the house until they are vaccinated. If you get a new puppy, do not take it out of the house until it has had all of its vaccinations.

Puppies should be vaccinated at 8, 12 and 16 weeks. The 16 week or 4 month vaccination is the most important.

A further problem with the current outbreak of parvovirus, it that the new strain of parvovirus, the 2c strain, is not always being detected by the current tests.
